Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, claimed that "activating digital finance centered on Security Token Offerings (STO) will expand the global territory of our economy."
Through his congratulatory speech at the 'Digital Finance Ecosystem and Security Token Convergence' forum held at the Korea Exchange in Seoul, he stated, "The country that secures digital finance first will gain leadership in future finance." Lee did not attend the forum in person, so his speech was read by Lee Han-ju, the director of the Democratic Research Institute.
In his speech, he emphasized the importance of revitalizing the stock market. He said, "If we change our economic structure to make the capital market more attractive than the real estate market, we can resolve the 'Korea Discount'," adding, "The path for citizens to become wealthy more easily is through the advancement and activation of the stock market." He continued, "Activating digital finance centered on security tokens is also necessary," and added, "By opening the digital asset market and allowing global digital assets to enter and be traded in Korea, we can have opportunities for the globalization of our capital market and wealth accumulation."
He cited 'efficiency' as an advantage of digital finance. "Digital finance activation can reduce transaction costs and enable rapid information flow, increasing business operational efficiency," he said, adding, "It also creates new market opportunities by promoting data-based decision-making using big data and artificial intelligence (AI)."
He also mentioned the need for cooperation between the private sector, government, and politics. "If the political community, government, and private sector cooperate to consistently pursue digital finance strategies, we can overcome the Korea Discount and create an opportunity for Korea's innovative economy to flourish in the long term," he stated. He added, "Building a systematic and transparent digital finance industry is one of the important tasks we must pursue," and "We should not neglect efforts to find ways to strengthen the fundamental competitiveness of our economy in each sector."
