Summary

  • It was reported that mentions of blockchain in SEC filings reached an all-time high in February.
  • Blockchain-related terms were mentioned 5,190 times, exceeding 5,000 for the first time.
  • This is analyzed to be due to the Trump administration's cryptocurrency regulation easing and changes in the SEC's regulatory approach.

The number of mentions of 'blockchain' in U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings last month reached an all-time high.

The Block reported this on the 12th (local time), citing data from the SEC's Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval system (EDGAR). Specifically, blockchain-related terms were mentioned 5,190 times in SEC filings last month. This is the first time that blockchain-related term mentions in SEC filings have exceeded 5,000.

Behind this increase is the Trump administration's move to ease cryptocurrency regulations. The Block stated, "The surge in blockchain mentions coincides with a shift in the SEC's approach to cryptocurrency regulation," adding that "a significant change in the SEC's cryptocurrency regulatory stance emerged when Mark Uyeda took office as Acting SEC Chairman in January." The report further noted, "However, such changes could also mean increased regulatory oversight."
