There is an ongoing debate within the community as claims emerge that if the Bitcoin (BTC) network remains as it is, a shift to new alternatives will eventually begin.
According to a Cointelegraph report on the 16th (local time), Jason Calacanis, a well-known angel investor in famous IT companies like Uber, stated, "Bitcoin has been a great game so far, but large corporations are monopolizing the market. Eventually, the time is coming to create 'a better Bitcoin' and restart the game."
The argument is that as time passes, technology gets replaced, and Bitcoin will not be able to resist this trend.
This has prompted backlash from Bitcoin (BTC) industry professionals. Brady Swenson, co-founder of Swan Bitcoin, said, "A winning protocol cannot be replaced. More things are just built on top of that protocol. Bitcoin as a protocol for value transfer can never be replaced, and competition is ongoing between Layer 2 protocols."
David Marcus, CEO of Lightspark, also stated, "Bitcoin's lacking features can be complemented through Layer 2."
