Big Tech Like Google Achieving Results

Reversed "20 Years for Commercialization" Statement and Joined

Mentioned "Expecting Samsung HBM Participation"

NVIDIA has joined the quantum computer development race led by big tech. Considering that Jensen Huang, NVIDIA CEO (CEO·photo), said two months ago that "it will take 20 years to commercialize quantum computers," this is considered surprising. It is interpreted that the strategy was changed as Google and others have successively released results in quantum computing development.

On the 19th (local time), NVIDIA announced that it would establish the 'NVIDIA Accelerated Quantum Research Center (NVAQC)' in Boston, USA, with the goal of providing technology for the advancement of quantum computing. CEO Huang announced this directly at the annual developer conference 'GTC 2025'. NVAQC will begin research in the second half of this year. Quantum computers are a new concept of computers that dramatically increase computing speed by utilizing quantum mechanics. There are research results that show calculations that take thousands of years on a general computer can be solved in seconds.

CEO Huang said, "Quantum computing can solve important problems from new drug development to material development," and "We will play a role in creating large-scale quantum computers."

NVIDIA plans to conduct joint research at NVAQC with Harvard University's 'Quantum Initiative (HQI)', and MIT's 'Engineering Quantum Systems (EQuS) Group'. Quantum computing specialized companies like Quantinuum, Quantum Machines, and QuEra Computing will also participate in development at NVAQC. NVIDIA decided to provide the software platform 'CUDA-Q' necessary for quantum computer development and the AI accelerator 'GB200 NVL Rackscale' system needed for large-scale data computation to joint researchers.

Quantum computing is one of the interests of global tech companies. Following Google, Amazon, and D-Wave Quantum have recently released research results, and the University of Science and Technology of China also announced that it developed a quantum processor 'Zuchongzhi 3.0' that surpasses Google.

CEO Huang said, "Samsung Electronics is excellent at combining application-specific integrated circuits (ASIC) and memory," and "I hope Samsung Electronics can participate in manufacturing high-bandwidth memory (HBM) for NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra." Regarding reports that NVIDIA will acquire Intel Foundry shares with TSMC, he denied it by saying, "We were not invited."
