According to cryptocurrency media outlet CoinDesk on the 27th (local time), the Sei Foundation is considering acquiring genomics company 23andMe to apply genetic data to blockchain.

The company is known to be a personal genomics and biotechnology firm based in California, holding genetic information of 15 million people.

It recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The Sei Foundation stated, "This acquisition is a gamble for Decentralized Science (DeSci)," and added, "Genetic data security is a matter of national security."

Furthermore, they explained, "Given that 23andMe is experiencing financial difficulties, this is significant," and "However, at the same time, this is not merely about saving a company, but about building a future where users can directly manage their most personal data."
