Summary

  • Jurrien Timmer of Fidelity predicted that Bitcoin could surpass gold.
  • He explained that this could be possible in 10 to 20 years, assuming an annual growth rate of 8%.
  • However, he added that if gold's value rises faster than 8% annually, gold is expected to maintain a more stable position.

Jurrien Timmer, the head of global macro at the major U.S. asset management firm Fidelity, stated on the 28th (local time) via X (formerly Twitter) that he sees "Bitcoin (BTC) as having the potential to surpass gold," but added that "this will not happen in the near future."

He explained, "Assuming gold continues to grow at an annual rate of 8% as it has since 1970, and Bitcoin follows a Power Law curve or the S-curve model of the internet, this could happen in 10 to 20 years."

Furthermore, he added, "However, if gold's value rises faster than 8% annually, it is expected that gold will maintain a more stable position than Bitcoin."
