Dunamu, the operator of the digital asset exchange Upbit, announced on the 31st that it has completed the 'Cheer Up Future Generation' campaign for children and adolescents from vulnerable families and delivered the donations.
The donation ceremony was held on the 29th at the World Vision headquarters located in Yeouido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. Approximately 970 million won in sponsorship funds were delivered to support the new beginnings of children and adolescents from vulnerable families, with Youngjun Park, Executive Director of Dunamu, and Seongtae Kim, Head of ESG Social Contribution at World Vision, in attendance.
Upbit's 'Cheer Up Future Generation!' campaign is a digital asset donation campaign for children and adolescents from vulnerable families who are struggling to purchase school necessities such as uniforms and backpacks. As part of Dunamu's ESG initiative to contribute to nurturing future generations with beneficial technology and empowering finance, it aligns with the sponsorship of Jae-Young Byeon, the gold medalist of the 2024 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships, which took place last January.
The member donations collected from March 7 to 21, approximately two weeks, amounted to 5.00846135 Bitcoin (BTC) and 0.94107947 Ethereum (ETH), which is approximately 670 million won (666,146,461 won) when converted to Korean won. The donation was operated in a 'Matching Grant' method, where Upbit added up to 300 million won to the member donations, resulting in a total donation amount of approximately 970 million won.
The donations will be used to support school necessities such as uniforms, backpacks, and school supplies for 2,000 children and adolescents from vulnerable families through 280 World Vision partnership institutions nationwide. In particular, part of the funds will also be allocated to academic and living support programs for families who lost their homes and are struggling to continue their studies due to the wildfire damage that started in the Gyeongnam area on the 21st.
On April 21, Upbit will provide NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) certifying the donation to members who participated in the 'Cheer Up Future Generation' campaign as a token of gratitude. Members who participated in the campaign can receive a donation receipt for their donation amount through World Vision.
Myung-Hwan Cho, Chairman of World Vision, said, "The donation campaign using digital assets holds great significance in spreading a new donation culture," and added, "We deeply appreciate Dunamu for delivering the sponsorship funds for children and adolescents from vulnerable families, and it will be a practical hope for the children who will lead the future of Korea."
Chi-Hyung Song, Chairman of Dunamu's ESG Management Committee, said, "This campaign is an extension of supporting the youth who will grow into the hope of Korea's tomorrow. Dunamu will continue to set a precedent for digital donations and spread positive influence with deep affection for the younger generation."
