Trump warns of '50% additional tariffs'... China says 'will fight to the end'

The Chinese government has strongly criticized President Donald Trump's remarks on additional tariffs.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce stated in an official statement on the 8th, "China has noted the U.S.'s threat to impose an additional 50% tariff on China and firmly opposes it." The spokesperson continued, "If the U.S. implements the escalated tariff measures, China will take resolute countermeasures to protect its interests."

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce emphasized, "The so-called 'reciprocal tariffs' imposed by the U.S. on China are unilateral bullying with no basis." The spokesperson added, "Threatening to raise tariffs on China is adding mistake to mistake, and China can never accept it," and stated, "If the U.S. insists on its way, China will definitely fight to the end."

Previously, President Trump stated on the previous day (7th) that if China retaliates against the U.S.'s reciprocal tariffs, "an additional 50% tariff will be imposed if the tariffs are not withdrawn." He also warned that if China does not accept the demand, all dialogues requested by the Chinese side will be canceled.
