Applying Increased Reciprocal Tariff on China from 34% to 84%
Existing Tariff + Fentanyl Tariff (20%) + Reciprocal Tariff (84%) Effective from the 9th

On the 8th (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing an additional 50% tariff on China, as he had previously declared.
President Trump had warned the day before that if China did not withdraw its 34% retaliatory tariff, he would impose an additional 50% tariff. Later that afternoon, White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt stated that the 50% additional tariff mentioned by President Trump would take effect immediately from the 9th.
As a result, the additional tariff imposed by President Trump on China (in addition to the existing tariff rate) amounts to a total of 104%, including 20% due to issues like fentanyl and a 34% reciprocal tariff, along with a 50% counter-tariff against retaliatory tariffs.
Considering the existing tariff rate is around 13%, the overall tariff rate on China is expected to be just under 120%. China maintains a stance of "fighting to the end."
Some analyses suggest that it is President Trump who is more anxious. China's stance does not align with President Trump's expectation that the tariff war between the two countries would not reach a breaking point.
Previously, President Trump had posted on Truth Social, "China also wants to make a deal tremendously but doesn't know how to start," adding, "We are waiting for the call. That deal will happen." However, this post is currently not visible.
