Summary

  • The European Union (EU) announced that it has decided to delay retaliatory tariff measures against the United States for 90 days.
  • It was stated that if negotiations fail after 90 days, retaliatory tariffs will be implemented immediately.
  • This is in response to the United States deciding to delay reciprocal tariff measures with countries other than China.

The European Union (EU) will delay retaliatory tariff measures against the United States for the next 90 days.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, announced on her official X account on the 10th (local time) that "we have decided to postpone the retaliatory measures for 90 days" and "want to give (the US) a chance to negotiate." President von der Leyen stated, "If the negotiation results are not satisfactory, the retaliatory measures will be implemented immediately," and "preparations for additional response measures are also ongoing."

The EU's decision to delay the imposition of retaliatory tariffs on the US is because the US has decided to delay reciprocal tariff measures against countries other than China. President von der Leyen stated that "all options remain open."
