Andy Jassy, CEO of the world's largest e-commerce company Amazon, stated that "consumer burden may increase due to US tariffs."
In an interview with US CNBC on the 10th (local time), CEO Jassy said, "We are watching how President Donald Trump's tariff policy will proceed," and "(Amazon's) third-party sellers may pass on the increased tariff costs to consumers." He noted that "most (sellers) do not have a margin of 50%," and "therefore, (sellers) are likely to pass the (tariff) costs onto consumers."
CEO Jassy pointed out that "some consumers have been observed stockpiling products in anticipation of price increases." He added, "(However) it is still too early to determine how widespread this phenomenon is."
Meanwhile, in his annual letter to shareholders, CEO Jassy emphasized that Amazon will keep product prices low within the company. CEO Jassy stated, "Amazon has proactively secured inventory to keep prices low on the platform," and "also attempted to renegotiate some purchasing contract terms."
