The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on the 10th (local time) that "President Trump has told his aides that he is aware that his trade policy could cause a recession." WSJ reported that "President Trump said he would not let (the recession) escalate into an economic depression."
WSJ emphasized that President Trump has been closely monitoring the recent market situation. It explained that the market trends were behind President Trump's decision on the 9th (local time) to abruptly suspend reciprocal tariffs on countries other than China. WSJ stated, "President Trump has been frequently asking those around him about market trends for several days" and "has shown signs of closely monitoring market movements in various places." In this regard, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besent explained that "(the tariff suspension) is not a concession but a strategy for more trade."
