  • This is in response to the tariff increase by the Trump administration.
  • China claims that the US's high tariff imposition violates international economic rules.

China has decided to raise tariffs on US imports from the current 84% to 125% starting tomorrow (12th).

On the 11th, the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council of China announced, "The US government has stated that it will raise reciprocal tariffs on Chinese imports to 125%." This is in response to the recent tariff increase on China by the Donald Trump administration.

They further argued, "The US imposing excessively high tariffs on China seriously violates international economic trade rules and goes against basic economic principles and common sense, constituting entirely unilateral bullying and coercive actions."

Previously, President Trump had suspended reciprocal tariffs imposed on countries worldwide for 90 days, but imposed a 'tariff bomb' of 145% on China, which retaliated with counter-tariffs. This figure includes a 125% reciprocal tariff added to the 20% tariff imposed due to China's fentanyl response.

In response, China has further raised the tariff rate after imposing an 84% counter-tariff on the US.
