On the 17th (local time), Trump told reporters at a signing ceremony for an executive order at the White House, "We have been talking frequently and directly since imposing a 145% (additional) tariff on China," he said. However, when asked if he had spoken with President Xi, he avoided a direct answer, saying, "That's not an important issue. Now is not the right time to disclose that."
He added, "I have a very good relationship with President Xi and I think this relationship will continue." He continued, "It's true that they have reached out several times," and "We believe we will make a deal with China. Even if they don't want a deal, we will make one."
Regarding reciprocal tariff negotiations with other countries, including South Korea, he said, "Many countries want to negotiate with us, and frankly, they want to negotiate more than we do," adding, "We will listen to them and treat them fairly." However, he emphasized, "It is us who decide the deal."
