Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared a temporary ceasefire for Easter.
According to the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti on the 19th (local time), President Putin announced during a meeting with Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov that "for humanitarian reasons, we will implement an Easter ceasefire from 18:00 (local time) today until midnight on Sunday (local time Monday 0:00)," and stated, "All combat actions will be halted during this time."
President Putin conveyed, "Russia expects the Ukrainian side to take the same measures." However, he added, "Our military must be prepared to respond to enemy provocations or ceasefire violations."
He emphasized that this ceasefire will be "a test to see if the Kyiv regime is willing to pursue a peaceful resolution."
