A bill to block President Donald Trump's aggressive tariff policy was rejected in the US Senate.
Bloomberg reported on the 1st (local time) that a bill to block the 'tariff bomb' of the Trump administration's second term recorded a 49-49 tie in the US Senate vote that day. According to US Senate rules, if a vote is tied, the bill is rejected.
President Trump had previously declared that he would immediately veto the bill even if it passed the Senate. Bloomberg reported, "President Trump narrowly won the challenge in the US Senate," adding, "(Even if it had passed the Senate) the bill would have had only symbolic impact."
Public opinion on the tariff policy of the Trump administration's second term is increasingly deteriorating. According to a poll conducted by CNN in mid-last month, 55% of American respondents said "tariffs are a bad policy." Additionally, 6 out of 10 American respondents (59%) said the policies of the Trump administration's second term are worsening the economy.
