Trump Says 80% Tariff on Chinese Products is Appropriate, Rebuts Easing

It is reported that U.S. President Trump stated that imposing a high tariff of 80% on Chinese products is appropriate.

According to ForexLive, an economic media outlet, on the 9th (local time), President Trump said, "An 80% tariff on China seems reasonable," adding, "The final decision is up to Treasury Secretary Scott Besant." He added, "Secretary Besant is in charge of the U.S.-China trade negotiations, and he will determine the appropriate rate."

The media noted, "Trump's remarks contradict recent reports that the U.S. government might adjust the tariffs on China to around 50%," adding, "This shows that Trump prefers a more aggressive approach."
