The high-level talks between Russia and Ukraine, which took place for the first time in over three years, ended after confirming only the differences between the two sides.

On the 16th (local time), AFP reported that the talks between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations, mediated by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, ended after 90 minutes at the Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul, Türkiye.

It was the first direct meeting in over three years, but it ended without progress, only confirming the differences between the two sides.

A Ukrainian diplomatic source criticized to AFP that "the Russian delegation made unacceptable demands, such as asking Ukraine to withdraw troops from vast territories under its control for a ceasefire."

Another source claimed to AP that "it seemed they intentionally brought up unfeasible issues to leave the meeting without any achievements."

The Russian side has not yet disclosed its stance regarding the talks.

The Ukrainian side mentioned, "There might be additional talks during the day," but added, "Nothing is planned as of now."
