[Breaking News] Lee Jae-myung "Introduce a Four-Year Presidential Term with Re-election... Decentralize Presidential Powers"

Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, has unveiled a constitutional amendment plan centered on introducing a four-year presidential term with re-election and a runoff voting system.

On the 18th, Lee posted on his Facebook, "If a four-year presidential term with re-election is introduced, allowing for a mid-term evaluation of the administration, the accountability will also be strengthened," adding, "Let's strengthen the president's accountability and decentralize powers."

He also proposed, "By introducing a presidential runoff voting system, we should secure democratic legitimacy and minimize unnecessary social conflicts."

Furthermore, he suggested, "Regarding the appointment of the Prime Minister, let's ensure that it can only be done with the recommendation of the National Assembly," and "Let the president respect the authority of the Prime Minister so that they can more firmly perform their duties."

Lee described the constitutional amendment as "an important pillar for the real Republic of Korea," expressing hope that if discussions proceed quickly, the public could be consulted during the 2026 local elections or, if delayed, the 2028 general elections.
