[Breaking News] Presidential Election Final Turnout Tentatively Tallied at 79.4%...Highest in 28 Years

The final voter turnout for the 21st presidential election has been tentatively tallied at 79.4%. This provisional figure marks the highest presidential election turnout in 28 years, since the 15th presidential election in 1997, which recorded a turnout of 80.7%.
According to the website of the National Election Commission, this was the result after voting closed at 8 p.m. on the 3rd.
This number reflects the turnout from early voting held on the 29th and 30th of last month (34.74%), as well as votes cast abroad, at sea, and by absentee voters.
However, early voting was not held for the 15th to the 18th presidential elections. Compared with presidential elections that included early voting, the final turnout for the 20th presidential election in 2022 (77.1%) was 2.3% points lower, and the 19th presidential election in 2017 (77.2%) was 2.2% points lower than this year's turnout.
By region, Gwangju recorded the highest turnout at 83.9%, while Jeju had the lowest at 74.6%. Seoul was at 80.1%.
