Summary

  • The United States Federal Court of Appeals reportedly issued a stay that maintains former President Trump's authority to impose tariffs.
  • It was stated that Trump's tariff authority will remain legally in effect for the time being.
  • The appeal hearing is scheduled to be held on July 31.

The United States Federal Court of Appeals has issued a stay on a lower court's ruling that limited former President Donald Trump's authority to impose tariffs. As a result, the legal effect of Trump's tariff authority is expected to remain in place for the time being.

According to Politico on the 10th (local time), the Federal Court of Appeals granted an expedited review of the case and decided to hold a full appeal hearing on July 31.

Previously, the Federal International Trade Court had blocked the implementation of reciprocal tariffs and other measures announced by President Trump on April 2. The reason cited was that the U.S. Constitution grants taxation authority to Congress, not the President, and that even the President's emergency powers for protecting the U.S. economy cannot override this.
