Previously, the American media outlet 'Axios', citing a well-informed government official, reported that "the Trump administration discussed issues related to talks with Iran the previous day." According to the outlet, Trump said at the G7 summit, "I am also communicating (with Iran) by phone, but it is better to meet and talk. I hope Iran agrees to negotiate."
In addition, French President Macron also told reporters that "the United States has proposed talks with Iran" and that "the situation should be watched going forward."
