Israel has warned residents near Iran's Arak heavy water reactor facility to evacuate.

According to Associated Press (AP) on the 18th (local time), the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) posted on X (formerly Twitter) a satellite image of Iran's Arak heavy water reactor marked with a red circle, notifying residents in the nearby area to evacuate.

The Israel Defense Forces stated, "We are issuing an emergency warning to the residents, workers, and current occupants of Arak and Khondab," and added, "Evacuate immediately before we strike the Iranian regime's military facilities."

The Arak heavy water reactor is located about 250km away from Iran's capital, Tehran. Israel and others believe that Iran is producing plutonium at this site that could be used for nuclear weapons. This is considered an alternative route for Iran to develop nuclear weapons in addition to highly enriched uranium.
