The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) reportedly met with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to discuss digital asset infrastructure and regulatory solutions focusing on tokenization.

According to the crypto-focused U.S. media outlet Cryptopolitan on the 21st (local time), the DTCC and the Crypto Task Force under the SEC recently discussed the operational flow of tokenization services, technical design, token utilization plans, and the scope of regulation.

In particular, the DTCC is said to have had in-depth discussions with the SEC about how tokenization services might be integrated into the existing financial regulatory framework, what legal obligations are imposed on the clearing house regarding digital asset settlement and clearing, and whether exemptions or regulatory adjustments to certain obligations are possible, given the unique characteristics of tokenized assets.

The outlet reported, "DTCC is further ramping up its initiatives around blockchain technology and cryptocurrency, including reviewing the introduction of stablecoins," adding, "Currently, tokenized securities are illegal in the U.S., but the SEC is also interested in reorganizing the relevant regulatory framework, which makes this worth watching."
