President Trump wrote on Truth Social, the social networking service, that “Iran gave an official response as expected with a very weak reaction to our destruction of their nuclear facilities,” and said as much.
He continued that the U.S. responded “very effectively” to Iran’s offensive, explaining, “14 missiles were launched, 13 were intercepted, and 1 was left alone as it was headed in a non-threatening direction.” President Trump added, “I am pleased to report that no Americans were injured and there was almost no damage.”
He also said, “Hopefully there will be no more hatred,” and added, “I would like to thank Iran for preventing casualties by providing advance (attack) notice.”
Earlier, after being attacked at three nuclear facilities by the United States and Israel, Iran launched missiles at the U.S. military base in Qatar in a retaliatory strike on the afternoon of the same day.
Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported that “Iran’s missile operation targeting U.S. military bases in Qatar and Iraq has begun.”
U.S. media Axios, quoting Israeli officials, said that Iran launched six missiles toward the U.S. military base in Qatar. Reuters reported that multiple explosions were heard over Doha, the capital of Qatar.
The White House and Department of Defense are aware of these attacks and are closely monitoring the situation, according to a White House official. CNBC broadcast that President Donald Trump held an emergency meeting in the situation room with the Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
