Vitalik Buterin: "Dual governance is not perfect, but it's effective in reducing risk"

Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum (ETH), assessed that the dual governance model—a form of on-chain governance—is not perfect but is effective in mitigating risks.

On the 28th, Buterin stated on his X (formerly Twitter), "Dual governance can serve as an additional safeguard to prevent the system from making wrong decisions," and explained, "It helps Ethereum users participate not just by following the crowd, but as clear stakeholders with a proper understanding."

Earlier, on the same day, on-chain governance developer leuts.eth shared that "Lido (LDO) conducts some governance proposals through on-chain voting based on Aragon, where the dual governance model has been applied."

According to Lido, dual governance is a governance model in which, when key proposals such as smart contract upgrades or node operator changes are made, if token holders express opposition, the implementation of the proposal is delayed. When the opposition to a proposal is significant, users are given enough time to safely withdraw their staked assets and ‘exit’ from the protocol.
