Summary

  • The Israel Defense Forces announced that they intercepted a missile launched from Yemen.
  • The Houthi claimed that they successfully struck a sensitive target in Israel.
  • The Houthi stated they would stop attacking commercial vessels in the Red Sea with the United States, but attacks on Israel continue.

The Times of Israel, a local daily, reported that the Israel Defense Forces intercepted a missile launched from Yemen.

On the morning of the 28th (local time), air raid sirens sounded in Beersheba, Dimona, Arad, and other areas as a missile launched from Yemen entered Israeli airspace, heading toward southern Israel. In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces said, "We activated our air defense system and intercepted the missile from Yemen."

Yahya Saree, spokesperson for the Iran-aligned Houthi rebels in Yemen, stated in a press release, "We launched a ballistic missile at sensitive targets in Beersheba" and claimed, "We successfully struck the target."

Since the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, the Houthi have repeatedly launched missiles and drones toward Israel, claiming solidarity with Palestine.

In particular, since March of this year, despite declaring a ceasefire with the United States—which had been carrying out intensive airstrikes against them—and announcing in early May that they would halt attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea, the Houthi have continued attacks on Israel.
