It has been revealed that Industrial Bank of Korea and Shinhan Financial Group have applied for trademarks related to Korean won stablecoins.

According to industry sources on the 30th (local time), on the 27th, Industrial Bank of Korea filed applications for ten trademarks related to Korean won stablecoins, including 'IBKKRW,' 'IBKRW,' and 'ONEIBK.' The trademarks were registered for use in services such as 'stablecoin electronic transfer business' and 'blockchain-based digital asset management business.'

Shinhan Financial Group also filed for trademarks. On the 26th, Shinhan Financial Group applied for 21 trademarks related to stablecoins, such as 'KRWSHB,' 'SFGKRW,' and 'SHKRW.' The application categories included 'cryptocurrency financial transaction business' and 'cryptocurrency brokerage business.'

Previously, Kookmin Bank and Kakao Bank also filed trademark applications for Korean won stablecoins, suggesting that competition for dominance in stablecoins within the financial sector will intensify.

Meanwhile, Min Byung-deok, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, has proposed the 'Digital Asset Basic Act,' a bill related to the issuance of stablecoins.
