According to Reuters on the 1st (local time), President Donald Trump of the United States stated that there are no plans to further extend the deadline for country-specific mutual tariff deferrals, which is currently set for July 9 (local time).

President Trump, speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One (the presidential plane) as he returned to Washington after visiting Florida, said, "We have been negotiating mutual tariffs with Japan, but frankly, I see a low possibility of reaching an agreement."

He continued, "If necessary, we can impose mutual tariffs of about 30~35% on Japanese imports," emphasizing, "The specific tariff rate will be determined by us."

This is significantly higher than the mutual tariff of 24% announced on April 2.

At that time, the tariff had been temporarily deferred, and with this statement, President Trump reconfirmed his policy that the deferral will not be extended.
