Netmarble's blockchain specialist subsidiary Marblex (Marblex, MBX) is reportedly reviewing plans to launch a Korean won-based stablecoin business.
On the 2nd, a Marblex representative told BloomingBit over the phone, "We are interested in Korean won-based stablecoins and are currently in the stage of reviewing the business."
Notably, Marblex reportedly held a closed-door meeting with Toss yesterday regarding the Korean won stablecoin business. Marblex explained, "The meeting with Toss is still in the preliminary stage, so it’s too early to say there will definitely be any collaboration with Toss."
Previously, on the 27th, Toss filed a total of 24 trademark applications related to stablecoins, such as 'KRWV', 'TKRW', 'KRVV', 'VKRW', 'TOSSKRW', 'KRWTOSS', 'KRWT', and 'KRWTS', initiating preparations for the issuance of a Korean won stablecoin.
Recently, the domestic gaming industry has been actively pursuing stablecoin projects. NEXUS registered the Korean won stablecoin ‘KRWx’ on Binance’s blockchain BNB Chain and filed a domestic trademark application. Wemade decided to introduce the stablecoin USDCe to the WEMIX 3.0 Mainnet. Blomix signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to jointly participate in the STBC consortium issuing stablecoins in Thailand, through its parent company BPMG.
These gaming companies aim to enhance liquidity within the game economic ecosystem and ensure the stability of game tokens by using stablecoins. By leveraging stablecoins, which maintain more stable value than general cryptocurrencies, they expect to increase economic activities among game users and expand the beneficiaries who can exchange monetary value.
