On the 2nd (local time), cryptocurrency-focused media outlet BeInCrypto, citing blockchain security expert ZachXBT, reported that North Korean hackers are systematically infiltrating more than 900 virtual asset companies worldwide.

According to the outlet, these hackers secure access to internal systems by obtaining jobs at multiple virtual asset startups under false pretenses, then attempt hacks. In particular, it was reported that common traits during the hiring process include unclear career histories, refusal to undergo KYC (Know Your Customer), and avoidance of face-to-face interviews at actual places of residence.

Additionally, some hackers are employed at several companies simultaneously, and it has been commonly noted that their job performance is extremely poor and they have a high early resignation rate. The amount of virtual assets and fiat currency presumed to have been received by North Korean hackers as salaries is said to have reached about $16.58 million this year alone.

Furthermore, the outlet added, "Last week, North Korean hackers hacked several NFT (Non-Fungible Token) projects and stole a total of $1 million," and noted, "Their infiltration and theft methods are becoming increasingly sophisticated."
