The confirmation motion for Prime Minister nominee Kim Min-seok passed the National Assembly plenary session on the 3rd.

People Power Party lawmakers, who had called for Kim's voluntary resignation, labeling him an unfit candidate, boycotted the vote on Kim's confirmation motion and did not attend the plenary session.

Only lawmakers from the ruling Democratic Party of Korea and other pro-government parties, such as the Cho Kuk Innovation Party and the Progressive Party, participated in the vote.

In a secret ballot, out of 179 lawmakers present, 173 voted in favor, 3 opposed, and 3 were invalid, resulting in the confirmation motion for Kim passing.

The handling of Kim's confirmation comes 29 days after President Lee Jae-myung nominated him on the 4th of last month, and 35 days after President Lee submitted the confirmation motion to the National Assembly (on June 10th).

With this, Prime Minister Kim will be inaugurated as the first prime minister of the Lee Jae-myung administration and as the 49th prime minister.
