According to CoinDesk on the 15th (local time), Standard Chartered will offer spot trading services for Bitcoin and Ethereum to institutional investors. This marks the first case of a major global bank providing spot trading services for virtual assets (cryptocurrencies).

The service will first launch at the United Kingdom branch and will be available during the trading hours of Asia and Europe. Depending on client demand, it will later be expanded to offer 24/5 trading services.

René Michau, Global Head of Virtual Assets at Standard Chartered, said, "We are the first among global banks to provide virtual asset trading," adding, "The main clients of the service will be global enterprises such as asset management firms and investment companies."
