Kaia will co-host the '1st Korea Stablecoin Hackathon' with Tether, kakaopay, and LINE NEXT starting August 1.

The hackathon, held under the theme 'Korea Stablecoin Industry, Leaping Beyond Innovation to G2,' aims to uncover innovative business models and real use cases based on stablecoins within the domestic Web3 fintech industry—an area that has recently drawn attention following the introduction of new legislation.

The hackathon, with a total prize pool of ₩100,000,000, is divided into two categories: the KRW Stablecoin Ideathon and a USDT hackathon based on Kaia. Kaia plans to provide opportunities for mini DApp launches within LINE messenger through collaboration with major partners, and to support outstanding projects in implementing viable business models within the Kaia ecosystem.

Running for about a month through early September, the hackathon is open to anyone interested in stablecoins and Web3—including developers, planners, designers, university (and graduate) students, and prospective or current entrepreneurs. Winners will be selected based on criteria such as financial inclusion, payment system innovation, RWA (real-world asset) linkage, DAO optimization, cross-border remittance, and digital content transactions.

At the demo day and awards ceremony scheduled for September 3, Min Byung-deok, the lawmaker who submitted the Digital Asset Basic Act, will attend and deliver congratulatory remarks. Min will emphasize the importance of private sector-driven stablecoin ecosystem development and policy cooperation.

Shin Won-keun, CEO of kakaopay, commented, "It's an honor for us as a national financial platform to help evaluate innovative ideas in the globally relevant stablecoin sector," adding, "We look forward to seeing projects discovered through the hackathon turn into real services amid changes in the policy environment."

Ko Young-soo, CEO of LINE NEXT, noted, "This hackathon marks the initial step toward stablecoin activation," and stressed, "By discovering and supporting innovative business ideas, we'll accelerate the popularization of stablecoins and Web3 services."

Seo Sang-min, Chairperson of the Kaia DLT Foundation, stated, "It is significant that core partners such as kakaopay and LINE NEXT as governance members, along with Tether, are participating in the hackathon," adding, "We aim to change perceptions of the fintech industry based on digital assets and discover practical Web3 business models."
