Dunamu, the operator of the cryptocurrency exchange Upbit, announced on the 18th that it will donate 5 BTC (approximately ₩800 million) to aid in the restoration of areas affected by recent torrential rains and to support victims. The funds will be delivered through the Community Chest of Korea (Love's Fruit).
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, by 6 p.m. on the 17th, the recent heavy rain had caused 4 fatalities, forced 1,382 people to evacuate, and resulted in 7 cases of public facility damage. The government expects heavy rains to continue through the weekend and has raised the alert level from 2 to 3.
Dunamu's donation will prioritize support for severely affected regions such as Chungnam, Chungbuk, and Gwangju, and will also be proactively used for relief of disaster victims as the damage situation evolves.
The donation will be used to provide relief supplies for victims, support temporary housing, replace household appliances, and restore social welfare facilities that have fallen into disaster blind spots.
