On the 29th (local time), Musk replied to a comment on X (formerly Twitter) regarding "Samsung Electronics being unaware of Tesla's future semiconductor production plans."
This X user shared Musk’s post from the 27th that said, "Samsung has agreed to help Tesla maximize manufacturing efficiency" and argued, "Samsung has no idea what they signed up for."
In response, Musk replied, "They do," and added, "I had a video call with Samsung’s chairman and top executives to discuss what the actual partnership would look like." He further noted, "We will utilize the strengths of both companies to achieve great results."
Musk also responded to another user who commented, "Samsung Electronics lags behind TSMC in chip manufacturing technology. It's uncertain whether Samsung can realize the new 2-nanometer technology for Tesla’s AI6 chip. If they can’t, AI6 might possibly go to TSMC instead," by saying, "Both TSMC and Samsung are great companies. It’s an honor to work with them."
Previously, following the announcement of Samsung Electronics’ large foundry contract, Musk revealed in a post on X that Tesla was the contract partner. At the time, he said, "Samsung’s large new factory in Texas will be dedicated to producing Tesla’s next-generation AI6 chips," emphasizing, "The strategic importance of this cannot be overstated."
Musk added, "The $16.5 billion figure is just the minimum," and, "Actual production is likely to be several times higher."
