India protests Trump's tariff warning... 'Purchasing Russian oil is justified'

President Donald Trump of the United States criticized India's purchase of Russian oil and hinted at the possibility of raising tariffs on India, while India's Ministry of External Affairs is protesting, saying it is 'unfair.'

On the 4th (local time), India's Ministry of External Affairs immediately issued a statement, saying, 'It is neither fair nor reasonable to single out India.'

They also claimed that when India imported Russian oil, the United States encouraged such imports to stabilize the global energy market. The ministry added, 'Like other major economies, India will take all necessary steps to protect its national interest and economic security.'

India has emerged as one of the main importers of Russian oil after Russia's oil trade with Europe was cut off due to the war in Ukraine.

Earlier, President Trump criticized on his social media platform 'Truth Social,' saying, 'India is making massive profits by buying up Russian crude oil in large quantities and reselling it on the market.'

He continued, 'They do not care how many people have lost their lives in Ukraine due to Russia's war machine,' adding, 'For this reason, I will significantly raise tariffs on India.'
