Trump: "Semiconductor Tariffs Announcement Next Week, Pharmaceutical Tariffs Up to 250%"

Emphasizes "We want semiconductors to be produced in the United States"

President Donald Trump announced that he will unveil a new semiconductor tariff plan next week. However, he did not mention specific numbers or the scope.

On the morning of the 5th (local time), in an interview with CNBC's 'Squawk Box,' President Trump said, "I am going to make an announcement regarding semiconductors, which is a separate category," and added, "because we want to produce them in the United States." He noted that the announcement will be made "within the next week."

He also stated that tariffs on pharmaceuticals will start with small amounts initially and then "will be increased to a maximum of 150% after one to one and a half years, and then to 250%." Last month, Trump previously said he would impose up to 200% tariffs on pharmaceuticals, though the figures have repeatedly changed, so the final rates will only be known upon the official announcement.

Since April, the Trump administration has been conducting so-called Section 232 investigations related to national security impacts on pharmaceuticals and semiconductors.
