President Donald Trump of the United States announced that he is considering four candidates as potential chairs for the next Federal Reserve (Fed), including two individuals named "Kevin" and two others.
According to CNBC and USA Today on the 5th (local time), President Trump appeared on CNBC's 'Squawk Box' and said, regarding the next Fed chair, "Kevin and Kevin, both Kevins are very good."
He added, "Both Kevins are doing very well, and the other two candidates are also performing very well. In the end, there are many qualified people."
President Trump stated, "One out of the four will become the next Fed chair," but indicated that he would not make a final decision immediately.
According to local media, the two 'Kevins' mentioned by President Trump appear to be Kevin Hassett, the White House National Economic Council Director, and Kevin Warsh, a former Fed Governor.
In addition, Scott Besant, the Treasury Secretary, and Christopher Waller, a Fed Governor, are also considered strong candidates for the next Fed chair.
However, President Trump clarified that Secretary Besant is not a candidate. He explained that he asked Besant directly the previous night, saying, "I love Scott, but Scott currently wants to stay where he is."
Since taking office, President Trump has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction over the past several months regarding the Fed ignoring his requests to lower interest rates.
On the 1st, he targeted Jerome Powell, the current Fed Chair, on the social media platform Truth Social, calling him a "stubborn MORON who is too slow," and said, "The benchmark interest rate should be lowered significantly."
