National Guard troops and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents are set to be deployed in Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States. This is in response to the 'war on homelessness and crime.'
On the 11th (local time), a Department of Defense official told The New York Times (NYT) that, following President Donald Trump's order to strongly respond to crime in Washington, D.C., preparations have been made to deploy the National Guard. According to this official, several hundred troops stationed in Washington, D.C., will be deployed as National Guard units for this effort.
NYT further reported that the FBI plans to temporarily reassign 120 agents around Washington, D.C., for night patrols. An FBI spokesperson explained, "This measure is due to the increased demand for federal law enforcement in Washington."
On this day, President Donald Trump is expected to hold a press conference at The White House and announce countermeasures inside Washington, D.C., including these personnel deployments to address crime and homelessness.
President Trump wrote on Truth Social, his social network, "Washington, D.C. will be liberated today," adding, "Crime, savagery, filth, and human trash will disappear."
He continued, "The era of ruthlessly killing or harming innocent people is over. I promptly secured the border (through measures against illegal immigrants), and next is Washington, D.C.," he added.
