U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the 11th (local time) the nomination of Dr. E. J. Antoni, an economist affiliated with a conservative think tank, as the new Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
On Truth Social, President Trump said, "Our economy is booming, and he will report honest and accurate figures."
Dr. Antoni is the Chief Economist at The Heritage Foundation, one of the leading conservative think tanks in the United States. Previously, President Trump dismissed Erica L. Groshen, who had been appointed as BLS Commissioner during the previous Joe Biden administration, after claiming that the nonfarm payroll data released by the Department of Labor on the 1st was manipulated as it came in much lower than projections.
