President Lee Jae-myung will visit Japan ahead of his trip to the United States on the 24th, holding his first Korea-Japan summit with Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru.

On the 13th, presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung announced during a briefing that President Lee is scheduled to visit Japan from the 23rd to the 24th and will have a summit and dinner meeting with Prime Minister Ishiba.

According to spokesperson Kang, through this summit, the leaders of Korea and Japan will solidify the foundation for future-oriented cooperation between the two countries, discuss ways to strengthen Korea-Japan-U.S. cooperation, as well as regional peace and stability, and exchange views on regional and global issues.

Kang also stated, "Both leaders agreed to resume shuttle diplomacy as soon as possible last June" and added, "We hope that this visit will further deepen the personal bond and trust between the two leaders."

With President Lee's schedules for the U.S. and Japan visits now confirmed, it has been decided that no special envoys will be dispatched to the U.S. or Japan.
