A forecast has emerged that 'AI agents' could soon become the most active users on Ethereum (ETH). This outlook comes as automation technology is being implemented to enable cryptocurrency payments without human intervention.
According to Cointelegraph, a cryptocurrency-focused media outlet, Kevin Leffew and Lincoln Murr, developers at Coinbase, stated: "By using the HTTP 402 code together with Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP-3009), AI agents can automatically send stablecoins," adding, "AI agents have the potential to become Ethereum's largest group of users."
Previously, Coinbase revealed the 'x402 Payment Protocol' on GitHub. x402 refers to the protocol that Coinbase developed by adapting the HTTP 402 idea for Ethereum.
Leffew and Murr emphasized, "The advantage of x402 is not only that it enables payments, but it also allows various services to be connected so that AI agents can independently continue economic activity."
