Trump Arrives in Alaska... US-Russia Summit to Begin Shortly

According to the BBC on the 15th (local time), US President Donald Trump arrived in Alaska, the location of the summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The presidential aircraft 'Air Force One' carrying President Trump landed at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson north of Anchorage, Alaska's largest city, at 10:20 a.m. (local time) that day.

This was approximately 6 hours and 10 minutes after taking off from Joint Base Andrews near Washington, D.C., that morning.

Originally, the summit was scheduled to begin with a one-on-one meeting between the two leaders followed by a working lunch with their aides joining, but the one-on-one meeting has been changed to a 3-on-3 format.

According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the 3-on-3 talks will include US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff from the US side.

For the following working lunch and expanded talks, Treasury Secretary Scott Besant, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles will additionally join the discussions.

This summit is the first meeting between the US and Russian leaders since the launch of the Trump administration's second term. Global attention is focused on the possibility of a ceasefire agreement in the Ukraine war, now into its third year and sixth month.

President Trump is hopeful that if a ceasefire is achieved, 'end of war' negotiations could be pursued through a trilateral summit including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky or a multilateral meeting involving some European leaders.
