On the 25th (local time), ahead of the Korea-U.S. summit, the Presidential Office announced, "We will elevate the tariff negotiation to the summit level to achieve stabilization of economic and trade relations, and discuss the modernization of the security alliance for stronger security."
Presidential spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung gave a briefing at the Washington, D.C. Press Center in the United States this afternoon, stating, "From noon today, President Lee Jae-myung and U.S. President Donald Trump will have a summit meeting and a luncheon, which are expected to last about two hours."
Spokesperson Kang said, "This will be an opportunity to pioneer new partnership frameworks in shipbuilding, semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), nuclear power, and defense R&D (research and development)," and added, "On our side, a total of seven people, including the president, will enter the Oval Office."
She continued, "You can assume that the key personnel who have come to the U.S. will participate, and U.S. counterparts will also attend. Afterwards, items such as joint statements are subject to final discussion, and will likely follow customary procedures."
Additionally, spokesperson Kang introduced the 'Business Roundtable' event, which will take place after the summit, where business figures from both countries and President Lee Jae-myung will participate, stating, "This will be an opportunity to encourage investment and economic cooperation by Korean and U.S. companies across various fields such as advanced industries and strategic industry supply chains."
She went on to say, "President Lee Jae-myung will deliver an invited address at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS)," and added, "It will likely include content presenting the Republic of Korea’s foreign policy and its vision for the alliance."
On the final day of his trip, the 26th, President Lee Jae-myung is scheduled to travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he will inspect the Philly Shipyard, which was acquired by Hanwha Ocean.
Spokesperson Kang stated, "He will attend the naming ceremony for the National Security Multi-Mission Vessel ordered by the U.S. Maritime Administration. This will serve as an occasion to showcase a new aspect of the Korea-U.S. alliance, beginning with the MASGA Project."
