In a Fox News interview on the 12th (local time), President Trump said, "There is tremendous hatred between Putin and (Ukrainian President Volodymyr) Zelensky."
These remarks by President Trump once again expressed disappointment with President Putin, who has not agreed to the Russia-Ukraine summit the U.S. is pushing for to negotiate an end to the Ukraine war; Putin has instead strengthened attacks on Ukraine.
Trump also said, "A tango takes two, but when Putin wanted it, Zelensky did not, and when Zelensky wanted it, Putin did not," and explained, "Now Zelensky wants it, but Putin is a question mark."
He then hinted at the possibility of using strong sanction cards, saying it would be "press very strongly with bank sanctions, oil-related measures, tariffs, etc."
President Trump mentioned, "I have already taken many measures," referring to imposing a 50% tariff (the so-called 'secondary tariff') on India, which purchases Russian oil, as 'secondary sanctions' (sanctions on third parties that deal with primary sanction targets).
President Trump also mentioned the U.S. Supreme Court's hearing on the lawsuit that will determine the legality of the reciprocal tariffs he imposed on trading partners.
He said, "One of the most important events in our history," adding, "Winning this lawsuit is very important. Because (these tariffs) made us a wealthy country."
