Summary

  • Tether said it officially announced the issuance of a U.S.-focused stablecoin USAT.
  • With Bo Haynes appointed as USAT's CEO, it is expected to strengthen regulatory response capabilities.
  • Tether said it seeks to expand its presence in the U.S. market by launching a new product tailored to U.S. regulatory conditions in addition to USDT.

Tether, the issuer of the market-share-leading stablecoin 'USDT', officially announced its entry into the U.S. market.

On the 12th (local time), Reuters reported that Paolo Ardoino, Tether's chief executive officer (CEO), said, "We will issue the U.S.-based stablecoin 'USAT'." He added, "Bo Haynes, who comes from the White House, will serve as USAT's CEO."

This move is interpreted as meaning that, in addition to the existing global dollar stablecoin 'USDT', the company will introduce a new product tailored to the U.S. regulatory environment. Through this announcement, Tether, which had previously only left open the possibility of entering the U.S., has in effect declared an official entry.

Particularly notable is the addition of Bo Haynes, who served as executive director of the Crypto Council during the Donald Trump administration. This appointment is interpreted as a strategic step for Tether to strengthen its regulatory response capabilities while also expanding its touchpoints with policy authorities.
