Summary

  • It reported that the Financial Services Commission requested all level-1 executives to submit resignation letters.
  • It stated that this was carried out as a personnel refresh during the government's reorganization and reform of the financial supervisory system.
  • Following the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the FSC's move to reshuffle senior officials is increasing uncertainty within economic and financial authorities.

Target: Four people including standing members of the Financial Services Commission

Economic and financial authorities begin full-scale replacement of senior officials

Following the Ministry of Economy and Finance, it has been confirmed that the Financial Services Commission also requested all level-1 executives to submit their resignations. This is interpreted as an expression of the new administration's intention to refresh personnel amid the separation of the MOEF and the dismantling of the Financial Services Commission, as well as the reorganization of fiscal/budget functions and the financial supervisory system.

According to reporting by Hankyung.com on the 20th, Chairman Lee Eok-yeom received resignation letters collectively from four level-1 senior officials of the FSC the day before. This came just four days after his inauguration. The subjects are two standing members of the FSC, one standing member of the Securities and Futures Commission, and the head of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), totaling four people.

An FSC official said, "(Of the four level-1 officials) some have already completed submitting their resignation letters, and some are preparing to do so," adding, "We understand the resignations were requested in the context of personnel renewal by the new administration, similar to the MOEF."

Earlier, the MOEF last week requested the submission of resignation letters from all seven level-1 officials, including vice ministers, the Director-General for International Economic Affairs, the Fiscal Management Officer, the Director of the Budget, Tax and Planning Coordination Office, and the spokesperson. With the FSC choosing the same approach after Chairman Lee's inauguration, high-level personnel changes tied to government reorganization appear to be getting underway in full.
