U.S. Capital Group becomes largest shareholder of MetaPlanet… secures 11.45% stake

U.S. asset manager Capital Group (Capital Group) has emerged as the largest shareholder of "Japan's version of Strategy" MetaPlanet.

Simon Gerovich, MetaPlanet CEO (CEO), said on the 25th (local time) via X (X), "Capital Group has become MetaPlanet's largest shareholder," adding, "The current (Capital Group's) stake is 11.45%, amounting to USD 500 million (about KRW 700 billion)." MetaPlanet said, "On the 17th a change occurred among the company's major shareholders."

National Financial Services LLC, a subsidiary of U.S. asset manager Fidelity, became the second-largest shareholder. National Financial Services was originally MetaPlanet's largest shareholder. According to MetaPlanet's disclosure on the change of the largest shareholder that day, National Financial Services' stake in MetaPlanet fell from 12.9% to 7.4%.

Meanwhile, MetaPlanet declared bitcoin accumulation last year and transformed from a hotel operator into a bitcoin investment company. The bitcoin MetaPlanet has acquired amounts to USD 1.958 billion (about KRW 2.7 trillion), which ranks 5th among listed companies worldwide by holdings.
