Eleanor Terrett, host of Crypto in America, said on X on the 25th (local time) that "the White House is considering former CFTC commissioner Jill Sommers and National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Chairman Kyle Hauptman as candidates for CFTC chair."
Both former Commissioner Sommers and Chairman Hauptman are classified as pro-crypto figures. Terrett said, "Former Commissioner Sommers worked at the same consulting firm as current Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Paul Atkins," and "Chairman Hauptman worked as a senior vice president at investment bank (IB) Jefferies, in charge of U.S. Treasuries and futures trading." She added, "Both candidates are known to have pro-crypto leanings."
The CFTC is a major regulatory authority that oversees the cryptocurrency industry in the United States. The CFTC chair position has been vacant since June. Initially, the second Trump administration had named former CFTC commissioner Brian Quintenz as a candidate for the next chair, but his confirmation vote in the U.S. Senate has been delayed.
